A lion climbed up an Acacia tree in order to escape from a herd of buffaloes. The incident took place in Kenya’s Lake Nakuru National Park and was beautifully captured by Indian photographer Neelutpaul Barua, who released the photos Monday.

The series of photos showed the lion trying to hide in the tree after being chased by 100 buffaloes. The lion continues to growl at the them, however, it starts to slip off the branches. Luckily, the hard of buffaloes leave the area following which the lion escapes safely.

Recalling the incident, Barua, who was on a tour in the park, said, “Cape buffaloes do fall prey to lions however, the tables turned this time around. A herd of close to 100 cape buffaloes chased this lion that ended up taking refuge on an Acacia tree. Power is often on the predator's side but today his weight was pulling him down-he wanted to be on higher grounds but kept slipping. Knowing he could not hang in there for long, he continued to snarl at the herd with the hope of a safe passage.”

“But he was clearly outnumbered by the buffaloes that stood their ground - it was a game of patience. The herd lost interest in the pursuit and the ordeal ended when the lion jumped off the tree and ran for his life,” he said.
