  • Photos from the set of "Loki" Season 2 showed an in-universe film poster for the serial killer movie "Zaniac"
  • The movie stars Marvel Comics character Brad Wolfe, who becomes possessed by the real Zaniac
  • Other fictional movie posters spotted on the "Loki" Season 2 set feature the Phone Ranger and Kingo

As Marvel fans await the release of “Loki” Season 2, a new set photo may have hinted at a villain Loki could potentially face in the future.

Although everything remains uncertain, a potential Marvel villain Easter egg appeared in a photo from the set of “Loki” Season 2 that was posted on Twitter Monday by More Butter.

The image showed an in-universe film poster for “Zaniac,” a serial killer movie that was first introduced in the “Thor” comic book issue 319 back in 1982.

The movie stars Marvel Comics character Brad Wolfe as the title monster/slasher. While making the film, Brad becomes possessed by the actual Zaniac. The mysterious entity has a bloodlust for beautiful women, hence Brad and others who become hosts for Zaniac end up killing every woman in sight, according to Screenrant.

Marvel is no stranger to leaving Easter eggs as a reference to comic books or as a hint of the plot of an upcoming movie or series, but it is unclear which is applicable in the case of the fictional “Zaniac” poster.

Richard Nebens of The Direct suggested that Zaniac being a fictional monster “featured in slasher movies” could be the “direction for the character that 'Loki' Season 2 is taking.”

The second season of “Loki” was announced in a mid-credits scene of the first season's finale episode, but details regarding the plot have not been released yet.

Production for Season 2 started in June, with Tom Hiddleston and Owen Wilson returning as Loki and Mobius, respectively.

Set photos shared by one Twitter user suggested that “Loki” is filming its second season in the Noël Coward Theatre in London.

The set photos and video posted by the user showed a cinema adorned with fictional movie posters for “Zaniac” and another Marvel comic book character, the Phone Ranger. Another poster included the likeness of Kingo, the Bollywood actor played by Kumail Nanjiani in “Eternals.”

“Loki” first premiered on Disney+ back in June 2021 and broke the record for the most-watched Disney+ season series finale after pulling in about 1.9 million U.S. households' viewership in a span of five days.

In the series, Hiddleston reprised his role as the god of mischief but in an alternate universe where he is captured by the Time Variance Authority (TVA) to protect the timeline and beat another Loki, who has been killing their agents.

The first season ended with Loki appearing in a different timeline, where He Who Remains has taken over the TVA, without the Time Keepers.

Fans are excited to see what’s in store for “Loki” Season 2 following a promising ending that takes the show back to where it started.
