A Louisiana man was caught for allegedly posing as a young man with special needs and hiring babysitters to treat him like a child and change his diapers. Cops said the man was arrested and charged with human trafficking following an investigation that was sparked by a single text message.

31-year-old Rutledge Deas IV of Metairie was arrested Thursday after investigators found the deceptive text message he sent to a victim. Deas claimed he was taking “alternative therapy” in the message and offered money to the victim to change his diapers, the state police said. Deas also tried to push the victim into soliciting other babysitters to care for him, according to CBS 42 News.

Deas was first caught posing as a younger man with special needs about two years ago. Detectives from the Special Victims Unit conducted a Human Trafficking investigation in 2019 and discovered that the accused was offering money to babysitters to change his diapers.

At the time, cops found boxes full of diapers in his apartment during his arrest. Deas pleaded guilty to the charges related to the investigation and was placed on probation in December 2020.

One of his victims spoke with WDSU in 2020 and said none of them knew they were being tricked. They believed he was mentally disabled after finding Deas on an app.

“I think there is definitely something wrong if he thinks it's alright for someone to change his diaper is good," said the woman, who chose not to be identified.

“It was disgusting,” she said about Deas’ diaper fetish scheme.

Detectives found that Deas was recently exhibiting “similar behaviors” and began a second investigation on Dec. 20, 2021, after learning about the text message.

“In the message, Deas indicated that he was engaged in ‘alternative therapy’ and offered to pay the victim to change his diapers,” the Louisiana State Police said in their statement on Facebook. “As part of the ongoing investigation, detectives learned Deas attempted to recruit the victim to solicit other babysitters to care for him while he again posed as a younger man with special needs.”

Following the investigation, detectives obtained an arrest warrant and charged Deas with one count of human trafficking and one count of attempted human trafficking. Cops arrested him at his home in Metairie and booked him into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center.

The police said the investigation still continues with the possibility of finding additional victims. “Anyone suspected of being a victim of Deas is urged to contact detectives at 504-310-7000,” the police said.
