Man Chokes Six-Month-Old Son For Crying Non-Stop, Punches Wife For Intervening
A man in Singapore held his six-month-old son by the neck and punched his wife when she tried to save the child. The incident took place in September and the man pleaded guilty Monday.
A court heard that the unidentified 25-year-old father was trying to get some sleep but was disturbed by his son’s non-stop cries. The frustrated man got up from the bed and asked the baby to remain quiet. He then shouted at his wife and warned her he would ill-treat both of them if the baby cried again. He then went back to sleep.
A while later, the man called his wife into the room and demanded that she let the boy sleep beside him on the bed. Though initially reluctant, the woman agreed. Minutes later, she rushed into the room upon hearing the boy crying loudly. She then saw her son lying face down on the bed with her husband pressing on his neck. When the infant vomited on the bed, the woman immediately tried to take the infant away from her husband. He, however, refused which resulted in a struggle between the two during which she slapped him and he punched her back in the forehead.
The 20-year-old woman somehow managed to get the baby back and flee the home. She then handed over the baby to a neighbor and rushed to the police station to file a complaint. The woman was taken to a hospital where she was diagnosed with a minor head injury. She was hospitalized for a week. Meanwhile, the baby was also taken to a hospital, however, doctors found no injuries on him.
The man was taken into custody and charged with “causing hurt by a rash act endangering the child’s safety.” He could face up to a year in jail if found guilty. The man was out on bail and was expected to appear in court in January for sentencing.
