A man walking down the street in India's national capital met with sudden death after a brick flung by a monkey hit his head.

The incident occurred in Delhi on Tuesday. The victim, identified as 30-year-old Mohammad Kurbaan, was walking to a shop when a brick came flying down from the second floor of a building and hit him on the head. It was flung by a monkey from the rooftop. The victim got severely injured in the head and collapsed immediately. Passersby rushed him to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival, India Today reported.

A police complaint was filed and an investigation revealed that the brick was flung from a building owned by a man named Omprakash Mishra, who told the cops that he had kept two bricks on top of the water tank to prevent monkeys from opening it.

"On Monday evening, a group of monkeys removed both bricks. One was flung off the building and the other was thrown nearby on the terrace," police said, Indian Express reported.

A police complaint has reportedly been filed against unknown persons under sections of causing death by negligence.

Police said the victim sold bags at a shop and is survived by his wife and a five-year-old child. His body was handed over to the family following an autopsy.

Last year, the Indian government sanctioned funds of over $668,413 for a five-year project to control the monkey menace in the national capital. The programme would involve estimating the population of simians, understanding their behaviour and fitting them with radio-collars.

Earlier this year, monkeys in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu allegedly abducted newborn twins and killed one of the babies by flinging him into a moat. The twins' mother was busy in the kitchen when she heard monkeys screeching outside and found the simians had fled with her 8-day-old twins. Following a search, one of the babies was found dead in a moat behind the home. The other twin was rescued after being found abandoned on the roof of the home.
