A man killed his seven-year-old daughter for not completing her homework. The unfortunate incident took place in Kampala, Uganda, on Monday.

According to local reports, the unidentified accused returned home from work Monday evening and asked his daughter, Irene Nambalirwa, if she had completed her homework. When the girl told him she hadn’t done her homework, the man got furious and started beating her. The girl’s stepmother tried to intervene but the man did not stop.

The Kampala metropolitan spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, said, “The step-mother called the residents to help stop her husband from beating the girl but he refused.”

The girl was later rushed to a local hospital where she succumbed to injuries Wednesday morning. The accused was taken into custody.

“We have talked to the father and he says that his intention was not to kill the girl but to punish her for not doing the homework in time,” Onyango said.

The man, who faces murder charges, remained in jail as of Thursday.

Asking parents to not torture their children for disciplining them, Onyango said, “It is true you are supposed to discipline but this should not go beyond two canes on the buttocks. If the caning goes beyond that, it is torture.”
