“Star Wars” live action TV series “The Mandalorian” has finally announced its cast members. The lead role of the lone warrior will be played by “Game of Thrones” actor Pedro Pascal. Filming of the new show has been ongoing for a while now, and the first-look at Pascal’s character was previously shared online.

In an announcement made on the official Star Wars website, Pascal has been confirmed to be the lead of the show. The other cast members include Giancarlo Esposito, Gina Carano, Carl Weathers, Emily Swallow, Werner Herzog, Omid Abtahi and Nick Nolte.

Pascal has also confirmed the news, posting a picture of his “The Mandalorian” character’s concept art on his Instagram page. The concept art is apparently the original that was drawn by Dave Filoni, who is an executive producer on the show.

While Mandalore and its warriors are nothing new for “Star Wars” fans, there may be another more familiar element in the TV series. According to Screen Rant, it is believed that the armor for Pascal’s character was inspired by the canceled “Star Wars: 1313” video game. The game would have allowed the players to play as a young Boba Fett, an iconic character from the original trilogy.

One of the weapons that Pascal’s character wields is also supposedly inspired by a weapon Boba Fett used in the “Star Wars Holiday Special” TV episode. The official picture of the character shows him using a long blaster rifle as his primary weapon.

“The Mandalorian” show creator and executive producer Jon Favreau said in the announcement that they are having a great time filming with this talented group of cast members. He later added that he is excited to show the fans what they have been working on.

It remains to be seen if any of the characters from the movies will make a guest appearance in “The Mandalorian.” The plot is set at a time when the Empire has fallen and the First Order is yet to rise as the new threat in the galaxy. Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams) is one of the characters who is alive and well during this time period. The actor is reprising his role in the upcoming final film in the new trilogy.

“The Mandalorian” TV series will be available exclusively on Disney’s upcoming direct-to-consumer streaming service. The release date hasn’t been announced yet, but it should air in the U.S. by late 2019.
