“The Mandalorian” TV series creator Jon Favreau has shared a new picture of a character from the live-action show. Astromech droids are common in almost all “Star Wars” projects, and the upcoming series will be no different. One of the characters on the show is an old, rusting droid.

The picture of the Astromech droid that Favreau shared on Instagram showed that it had cracks and rust. The droid should remind fans of the R5=D4 unit that Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) almost chose in “A New Hope.” It remains to be seen if this broken down droid will be assisting the lead character of the show, who is a lone warrior played by Pedro Pascal.

The sandy nature of the set in which this droid will be seen in the TV series suggests that it will be there on a desert planet, a location where Pascal’s character is expected to be operating in. Will the show be set in Tatooine?

The plot of the upcoming TV series will be set at a time when the Empire has fallen and the First Order is yet to rise. Pascal’s character will be operating far from the reaches of the New Republic, which means that the people here will have to make do by repairing and reusing their old gear.

While there may be some good people on this desert planet, it is expected to be a wretched hive of scum and villainy of the galaxy. Favreau has already teased the return of the familiar bounty hunter IG-88 Assassin droid on Instagram. More such characters from the original trilogy and shows like “Clone Wars” may have cameo appearances in the upcoming live-action “Star Wars” series.

A separate page for all things Favreau has teased so far from the production set of “The Mandalorian” has been created on the official Star Wars website. This page will be constantly updated with content, as and when the producer adds new pictures or information about the show on his personal Instagram account.

Filming of the live-action TV series is currently ongoing. There will be just 10 episodes on the show in the first season.

The producers have yet to announce an exact release date for “The Mandalorian,” but the TV series is set to air sometime later this year. The show is expected to be available exclusively on Disney’s new streaming service. More details will be announced in the coming months.
