“Married at First Sight” is a unique process, to say the least. After meeting at the altar, brides and grooms get to know each other for eight weeks before deciding if they want to get a divorce or remain married. Having finished the process, Season 10 groom Austin Hurd, who married Jessica Studer, told International Business Times the advice he wishes he could’ve given himself and a few words of wisdom for next season’s couples on the Lifetime reality show.

IBT: If you could go back in time and give yourself advice at the beginning of filming “Married at First Sight” Season 10, what would you say?

Austin: I would tell myself that everything will be alright. I was very nervous the weeks leading up to it and especially the wedding day, I was sweating bullets. Also, to maybe get a haircut because it got hot at times and the long hair didn't help with that. I was really busy and to keep with continuity I wasn't able to cut my hair during the eight weeks.

IBT: What was the most important thing you learned about yourself throughout the season?

Austin: I felt like throughout this process you learn just as much about yourself as you do your new spouse. The most important thing I learned about myself is that it is refreshing and feels great to open up. I like to say I am always myself but have always been a bit guarded. It was a learned process for me to start to open up.

IBT: Tell us about watching your relationship back on “Married at First Sight.” Is it awkward? Enlightening? Frustrating?

Austin: I didn't want to go back and watch the show because I might be critical of myself or face the awkwardness. Overall, watching it has been more enlightening than anything, reliving some of those happy and fun moments we had in the beginning is what I focus on.

IBT: What do you wish viewers got to see more of?

Austin: I wish viewers got to see more of what Jess would do for me and support me on an everyday basis. She would always keep everything really clean and tidy which I respect seeing how I'm not too great at it. I would do more than I used to do as a bachelor because I wanted to be a tea.

IBT: Who did you form the closest friendship with among the other brides/grooms?

Austin: Most of the time hanging out maybe off-camera it would be the girls and I and maybe Derek. The other guys weren't really present. So I guess that would be who I was closest with. Kinda similar to how the couples retreat went.

IBT: Do you have any regrets?

Austin: No, I don't have any regrets. I went into it knowing if I wasn't myself then I would regret it.

IBT: What is the most important thing for future “Married at First Sight” cast members to know?

Austin: Be yourself! The point of all of this is for long-lasting marriages and to find and achieve that you need to be yourself and be honest.

The “Married at First Sight” Season 10 finale airs Wednesday at 8 p.m. EDT on Lifetime. Stay tuned for more IBT exclusives leading up to next week’s reunion special.
