After receiving praise for “The Irishman,” director Martin Scorsese is already busy at work developing his next film. Scorsese is expected to be reteaming with actors Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio for an adaptation of David Grann’s non-fiction book “Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI.”

Collider reported that the project, which has been in the making since 2017, is expected to begin shooting in March 2020. Talking with Collider, cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto revealed the date when the project will start production. He added that he and Scorsese are trying to figure out what direction and tone the film will have.

“Right now I’m in the process of researching different ways of shooting it so we still have to actually meet, and I’ll show him images, propose ideas,” he said.

The movie is based on the true story of an unsolved case dealing with the murders of the Osage Indian tribe in Oklahoma. The murders took place during the 1920s, in which at least 20 Native Americans were killed in Osage County. Oil was found on the native Osage Nation, which made the tribe exceedingly rich before the murders. The book also covered the start of the FBI and how this case was among the first that was taken by the law enforcement task force.

Released in 2017, the book was a finalist in the 2017 National Book Awards for Grann.

The project would be another partnership between Prieto and Scorsese after their work on “The Irishman,” “The Wolf of Wall Street,” and “Silence.”

Paramount Pictures would be contributing distribution for the upcoming film. There has been no release date given on “Killers of the Flower Moon” as it enters production next year.
