“Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger” ended with a cliffhanger. After being shot by Connors near one of Roxxon’s valves, Brigid O’Reilly fell into the water. However, in the final moments of the season finale, she emerged with lizard-like eyes. It’s safe to say that O’Reilly is forever changed, but she might not be the Season 2 villain.

“We see someone that looks a lot like O’Reilly coming out of the water so that’s obviously something we’re leaning into from the ‘Cloak & Dagger’ mythology," showrunner Joe Pokaski told the Hollywood Reporter. “It’s been interesting for us to set up Brigid O’Reilly as the friend to Cloak and Dagger in Season 1 and then in Season 2 she will be something slightly different.”

Those who read the Marvel comic books know that O’Reilly is becoming Mayhem on the Freeform drama. There are a few things audiences will want to know about her.

Comic Book Origins: In the comics, Cloak and Dagger used their powers to try and save the Manhattan cop, and she eventually woke up as Mayhem. She can paralyze people with a green gas she exudes. She can also hypnotize them to get information with the gas. She has claws, can fly and the jury is still out on whether she’s immortal, according to Marvel Database.

Judging by the San Diego Comic-Con teaser, Mayhem will still have her claws in “Cloak & Dagger” Season 2.

Not A Villain: Pokaski clarified to Vulture that just because she looks evil doesn’t mean she’s definitely the villain. The executive producer referred to the antihero as “evil-ish.”

“The Cloak and Dagger lore is kind of scattershot, but one of the most interesting things is the idea of a friend and confidante that turns evil-ish,” he said. “So the writers and I were very excited about having season one be a down-low origin story of a villain. When [Brigid actor] Emma Lahana came on board and we saw that she could do anything, it was more exciting to write to her skills, and to create this three-dimensional character that we could take everything away from and see what we ended up with.”

More Evolution: O’Reilly has more than lizard eyes going for her. Pokaski told TVLine that there will be plenty of surprises in the Mayhem storyline in Season 2. “Everything we do with Mayhem, particularly in the first three or four episodes, is going to surprise the heck out of you,” he teased. “I don’t want to say too much, because I’m really excited about what we’re doing. It was a tease about how we’re turning up the volume in Season 2. Now that we’ve worked with Emma Lahana and we know what she can do, we’re going to present a Mayhem — and a character — unlike you’ve ever seen.”

Vigilante Conflicts: Tandy and Tyrone are vigilantes too, but they’ll have a different approach. That could cause trouble with Mayhem. “The thing that excited me, in the most general sense, was the idea that if Tandy and Tyrone are choosing to be vigilantes, how do they react to the way that Mayhem operates? And how do they calibrate their own vigilantism, either away from or towards her?” Pokaski added.

“Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger” Season 2 is set to premiere in spring 2019 on Freeform.
