Egyptian director Mohamed Diab, who is responsible for directing Marvel's upcoming TV series "Moon Knight," slammed a scene from DC's "Wonder Woman 1984" where the title character, played by Gal Gadot, was shown in Egypt.

The 44-year-old director further revealed that when he pitched Marvel Studios for the "Moon Knight" series, he mentioned how "inauthentically" Hollywood has portrayed Egypt throughout the years.

"In my pitch, there was a big part about Egypt, and how inauthentically it has been portrayed throughout Hollywood’s history," Diab told SFX Magazine, GamesRadar reported Tuesday. "It’s always exotic – we call it orientalism."

"It dehumanizes us," he added. "We are always naked, we are always sexy, we are always bad, we are always over the top. You never see Cairo. You always see Jordan shot for Cairo, Morocco shot for Cairo, sometimes Spain shot for Cairo. This really angers us."

The director went on to recall how he felt when he watched "Wonder Woman 1984," which was dropped on Dec. 25, 2020.

"I remember seeing Wonder Woman 1984 and there was a big sequence in Egypt and it was a disgrace for us," he said. "You had a sheik – that doesn’t make any sense to us. Egypt looked like a country from the Middle Ages. It looked like the desert."

This is not the first time the director slammed a DC movie for their portrayal of the Middle East. Earlier this week, Diab slammed DC’s highly-anticipated movie, “Black Adam” featuring Dwayne Johnson in the lead.

"I was really annoyed with DC when they set Black Adam in a fictional middle eastern country as an excuse to cast non-Egyptians, when it was obviously meant to be in Egypt," Diab told The Direct on Sunday. "Representation opportunities shouldn’t be wasted... But it’s not a full mistake since it’s based on an iteration of the comics that doesn’t mention Egypt."

Disney Plus dropped the trailer of the "Moon Knight" series on Twitter last month. In case, you have missed it, watch here:

The series revolves around mysteries of the Egyptian gods, investigated by Marc Spector aka Moon Knight. The first episode of the series is slated to release on March 30. The series also stars Gaspard Ulliel, May Calamawy and Lucy Thackeray.
