In recent weeks, Matt Lauer has reemerged in the public eye due to his Mediaite op-ed that addressed the content of Ronan Farrow's 2019 book, "Catch and Kill: Lies, Spies, and a Conspiracy to Protect Predators." Now, a report has revealed how the former "Today" host secretly felt about how one of his NBC colleagues handled the news at the time that it broke.

According to Us Weekly, the one-time news anchor has felt betrayed by his former co-star Savannah Guthrie. As stated by the publication, he "was especially upset" about how she handled the rape accusations made by his accuser, Brooke Nevils. During a live 2019 broadcast where both she and co-anchor Hoda Kotb discussed Lauer's firing in 2017, she called the allegations of sexual assault both "shocking and appalling." Previously, some believed that these feelings were likely alluded to in a specific "barbed passage" of his op-ed.

Furthermore, the source revealed that Guthrie does not harbor a desire to mend her friendship with Lauer.

"She refused then and still does to this very day to listen to what Matt’s got to say. From the second the story came out, he feels Savannah jumped on the opportunity to bury him. It’s a betrayal in Matt’s eyes," the insider stated, later adding that "now neither can talk with mutual friends without bringing up the other’s name."

This is not the first time that Lauer's relationships with his former NBC co-stars has been discussed. Over the course of the past year, other reports have surfaced that suggest his relationships with other staffers have become strained. Not only has it been said that Kotb "ghosted" him after the sexual assault allegations came to light, but others indicated that former NBC personality Ann Curry could potentially negatively affect Lauer if she broke her "dignified silence."

As for what Lauer himself has been doing since his 2017 firing from the morning news show, he has continued to keep a relatively low profile, until recently. After making a decision that supposedly highlighted his "arrogance," he then resurfaced and made a "quick exit" at an unexpected event. Additionally, he has reportedly started seeing a new girlfriend as well.
