Since his 2017 firing from "Today" due to allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace, former anchor Matt Lauer has largely stayed out of the public eye. However, in the subsequent years, various reports about the one-time NBC star have surfaced and have offered a glimpse into what he has been doing since leaving the morning news show.

In 2019, Ronan Farrow released his book, "Catch and Kill: Lies, Spies, and a Conspiracy to Protect Predators." There, the journalist highlighted Lauer's previous interactions with various women, including accuser Brooke Nevils. Prior to its release, it was said that NBC had been bracing for the "bombshells" that were to be revealed.

After the book's release, Lauer penned an open letter where he claimed what happened with Nevils had been consensual. Following his denial, Nevils responded, calling his efforts a "case study in victim shaming." Later, it was also said that Lauer's accuser may have the opportunity to move forward with legal action due to a specific law.

Since his firing, several conversations have also surrounded Lauer's relationships with his former co-stars on the NBC show. Not only has it been reported that Ann Curry may be able to negatively impact him if she decided to break her "dignified silence," but it has also been said that anchor Hoda Kotb ghosted him following the rape allegations. Additionally, a former star of the morning news show revealed that Lauer's past decisions also negatively impacted her own career before leaving the program.

As for Lauer himself, in 2019, he broke his silence in an off-the-record interview. At that time, he reportedly stated that he believed he had made "numerous serious mistakes" and was seen making an appearance at that some said highlighted his "arrogance."

Throughout 2020, Lauer has also resurfaced in a variety of ways thanks to a new relationship and an unexpected appearance he made earlier this year.
