Meghan Markle was heard speaking in what sounded like a British accent during her solo outing with Queen Elizabeth II in Cheshire.

During that time, royal fans reacted negatively towards the “Suits” alum and said that she seemed ingenuine for losing her American accent very quickly.

One fan tweeted, “Meghan Markle is a lil phony for that fake British accent coming through. But if I became British royalty you’d see me day 2 saying pip pip cheerio.”

Another person wrote, “I’m kind of disappointed. It seems unauthentic for Meghan Markle to be speaking with a British accent. Especially this fast.”

“Unreasonably sad about Meghan Markle adopting an English accent and inflections. We’ve officially lost her to the monarchy,” another royal fan said.

But Damien Hall, a linguistics expert, recently defended Markle from the critics.

While speaking with Express, he said, “Subconsciously, you always have the impulse to adapt to your surroundings, wherever you are. You learn to speak without any regional peculiarities at all that would make you difficult to understand.

Kate Whitfield, a journalist for the publication, seconded Hall’s statement and said that it is hardly impossible for Markle to have picked up British slang since she’s surrounded by the royal family almost every minute of her daily life.

In related news, Markle also made headlines this weekend after the rules that she has to follow when she gets pregnant were revealed. Alahna Kindred, a journalist for Express, said that Markle isn’t allowed to reveal her baby’s gender until after he or she is born.

Markle won’t also be allowed to travel as much as she may be used to the minute she gets pregnant. And on the day of her baby’s birth, the former actress will be accompanied by a team of doctors, midwives, and anesthetists. Markle’s husband, Prince Harry, is expected to tell Queen Elizabeth II first that their baby has been born before the other members of the royal family.
