Meghan Markle is encouraged to follow Queen Elizabeth II’s mantra after her anonymous friends spoke out on the online attacks against the duchess.

Her Majesty has practiced the mantra to “never complain and never explain.” Thus, the Duchess of Sussex’s friends speaking out in an interview with People might raise eyebrows behind the palace gates, according to royal correspondent Camilla Tominey of the Telegraph.

The royal expert noted that it’s not certain if Markle was involved in the circulating article, but it’s highly unlikely for those “anonymous sources” to speak out without Markle’s permission.

Tominey pointed out how Prince William once reacted to his mom Princess Diana’s “Panorama” interview. The Duke of Cambridge revealed that there are times when one feels desperate due to unfair things that are being said that are not true. Prince Harry’s brother confessed that going to the media could be the easiest thing to do. Unfortunately, once you open that door, you can never close it again.

The royal correspondent also recalled a time when she called Kate Middleton to ask her reaction following her split from Prince William in 2007. According to the Telegraph’s associate editor, the Duchess of Cambridge politely apologized and declined to comment.

“I’ve never commented to the press before and I don’t think it would be wise to start now,” Middleton told her.

Tominey commended Middleton’s move saying that it seemed to be an effective strategy. She encouraged Markle to do the same.

“Keep schtum and let your actions speak louder than words,” Tominey wrote. “Take a leaf out of HM’s book, Meghan, and rise above.”

Meanwhile, a number of netizens reacted to Tominey’s article and disagreed with her. One netizen said that even if the Queen has this mantra, it doesn’t mean that it should stay that way forever.

Another Twitter user agreed and said that it isn’t the 1840s anymore and news travels fast and there’s a lot of abuse. She doesn’t expect the royals to address every report about them, but for her they should defend themselves from “scurrilous rumors.”

Another user claimed that Tominey would have been “singing a different tune” if Markle’s friends agreed to do the interview with the Telegraph instead of People. A different user said that Markle is a human being and shouldn’t just sit while others ruin her reputation because she’s not a press fodder.
