Kate Middleton made huge and heartbreaking sacrifices to marry Prince William.

The Duchess of Cambridge had to turn her back from the life she used to live when she decided to become a royal. According to royal biographer Andrew Morton in his 2011 book “William and Catherine,” Middleton had to give up her independence for the love of her life.

“There was, however, one casualty of this romantic reunion: Kate herself,” Morton wrote, adding that Middleton’s friends felt that “she was giving up independence for conformity and adventure for safety.”

Following Prince William and Middleton’s split in 2007, Middleton had been seen and photographed alone. She also undertook grueling training when she joined a women-only boat race. However, she suddenly pulled off a week before the competition when her relationship with Prince William was back on track.

Emma Sayle, the race organizer pleaded Middleton to do it not just for the charity but for herself, too. Middleton’s friend Alicia Fox-Pitt also had to drop out due to an injury after she broke her collarbone. However, she traveled to Dover to support the team in their world-record-breaking endeavor.

“As for Kate, it was as if the last three months of relative independence had become another country, the Sisterhood never heard from her again; not so much as a word of congratulation or a donation to the children’s charities for which the women raised more than £100,000.”

Middleton’s sister-in-law Meghan Markle had to go through the same heartbreaking sacrifices when she said “yes” to Prince Harry’s proposal. Shortly after their engagement, the actress announced that she would be quitting “Suits.” The USA Network’s legal drama series had catapulted Markle to fame. It’s not a secret that Markle had rough years as an auditioning actress before she landed the role in “Suits” but the Duchess of Sussex didn’t have second thoughts on sacrificing her career.

Prior to dating and marrying Markle, Prince Harry was with Chelsy Davy. According to royal biographer Katie Nicholl in her book “Harry: Life, Loss and Love,” when Davy witnessed the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s royal wedding, she realized that the life of a royal bride was not suited for her because she saw Middleton’s sacrifices for Prince William and she was not ready to do the same for Prince Harry.
