Meghan Markle has come a long way. From California girl to a member of the British royal family, she has evolved into a worldwide icon. Icon or not though, her half-sister, Samantha Markle, recalled a time when the Duchess of Sussex acted like the typical annoying sibling and claimed to be the favorite.

In his book "Meghan: A Hollywood Princess," royal biographer Andrew Morton retold the story.

“[Samantha] often told the story of the time before Christmas when Meghan was looking at a jewellery catalogue and picking out a ring which Tom Snr had promised as a gift," he wrote, according to Express. “She teased her much older sister by saying that whatever her father bought [Samantha], Meghan would receive the most expensive gift, as she was the most favoured child.”

Samantha was 17 years old when Mehgan was born, and the difference in their father Thomas Markle's parenting of his daughters apparently also contributed to the annoyance that she felt. Morton wrote, “... she recalled his frequent absences when she was growing up and felt somewhat jealous of the attention now focused on her baby half-sister.”

It's not a far-out claim that Samantha could still be jealous of the Duchess of Sussex today. After all, not only did the now 37-year-old allegedly get all the attention from their father but now she has the attention of the world.

Today, it seems like the relationship between the Markle sisters still needs work, but Samantha made her position known when she extended an olive branch to Meghan.

"I would really like to see everyone reach out," she said to in an interview with the Daily Mail in May. "I just want to say, Meg, you’ve got a world here and a family here [in the US] that are excited for you."
