  • Meghan Markle and Prince Harry might lose royal titles

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry secretly deleted a claim on their website days before the crisis talk with the Queen.

Last week, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex returned to the U.K. and carried out their first engagement. A day after, they shocked the world and rocked the palace when they announced that they are stepping back from their royal roles.

According to New Idea, they removed a line concerning their international status on their website the following day as talks with the Palace commenced. The publication was referring to the statement saying that they will continue to be “internationally protected people” and entitled to bodyguards around the globe as stated on their website.

“The Duke and Duchess are classified as internationally protected people which mandates this level of security,” the statement on their website previously read.

Prince Harry and Markle’s decision to remove it could be due to the growing concerns for who will pick up their security bill after resigning from their royal duties. Prince Harry and Markle were given round-the-clock security by the Metropolitan Police and the U.K, taxpayers used to pay for it. However, after their resignation, many believed that it shouldn’t be the case going forward.

There are rumors that Queen Elizabeth II will strip the couple of their royal titles. On Monday, the Queen summoned Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry for a four-way meeting to discuss the future of Sussexes after Megxit.

The monarch released a personal statement after the Sandringham showdown saying that they support Prince Harry and Markle’s decision. She mentioned their names several times but never used their royal titles.

Based on a poll conducted by JL Partners, 51 percent believed that the Sussexes should lose their royal titles. Another 54 percent wanted Prince Harry to relinquish his rights to accession.

Princess Diana’s former private secretary Patrick Jephson advised the couple to renounce their titles for they could face the risk of being accused of corruption from those who are angling to exploit their royal status. He stressed that it is not vengeance or punishment but it’s the reality.
