Meghan Markle reportedly uses a particular gesture to make herself appear more likeable to the public.

The Duchess of Sussex has been seen several times holding on to Prince Harry’s arm with both of her hands. Some find it endearing, but others have found the PDA unsightly. Body language expert Judi James described this act as a “possessive but also passive gesture” that Markle has used during her engagement with Prince Harry and throughout the start of their relationship.

James said that this is a tactic to appear likeable to the British public because this move lowers her status. “Hand-holding is a common gesture for most couples in love, but by pulling Harry’s left arm out with her free hand and pressing it against her own torso Meghan appeared to be performing a lowering ritual of ingratiation, i.e. looking slightly vulnerable by clinging to her prince in a very effective and sensible bid to gain acceptance by the entire country,” James told Express.

James added that Markle is keen to impress. The expert also compared the action to the way animals lower their heads to show respect in a bid to integrate. This is often used when meeting the in-laws for the first time.

Although Markle’s gesture seems to be geared towards making her look more endearing, it is also a loving act that suggests high levels of inner confidence.

“While clinging to Harry’s arm and reminding him of her presence she would also often rub his lower arm with her hand, suggesting that she was secretly reassuring him and boosting his confidence as they stepped out in front of the press,” the expert added.

In related news, the palace has confirmed that Prince Harry and Markle will split from Prince William and Middleton. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be closer to Queen Elizabeth II because they will now be based at the Buckingham Palace. Prince William and Middleton will remain in Kensington Palace.

According to reports, Prince Harry and Prince William have been planning a formal division for a while now due to their growing families. This is also necessary for “future-proofing” the monarchy. Prince William is reportedly supportive of his younger brother.
