Meghan Markle's 'Dingy, Biggest, Flashiest Home' In Her Youth Revealed In Photos
Meghan Markle and her family used to live together in a two-bedroom apartment.
Daily Mail shared photos of the home which the Markles occupied years ago when the Duchess of Sussex was only 2 years old. Chris White described the property as "cramped, dingy flats," but it's the "biggest and flashiest" home that the new royal lived in during her youth.
The property was located opposite a country club on Providencia Street in Woodland Hills. Markle lived there with mom Doria Ragland, dad Thomas Markle and half-siblings Samantha and Thomas Jr.
According to royal biographer Andrew Morton, it's where Thomas Jr. smoked weed all day. Markle lived there until she was 2 because her parents decided to divorce four years after their marriage. Following Thomas and Doria's divorce, Markle lived with her mom. But she split her time between her parents.
Markle's previous home doesn't compare to the living space she has now. Queen Elizabeth II has given her and Prince Harry a number of properties as wedding presents.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are occupying the two-bedroom Nottingham Cottage in Kensington Palace where Prince William, Kate Middleton, Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank also live. In addition, the couple reportedly received Adelaide Cottage from the Queen.
"There are seven gated entrances and exits to Windsor Castle so the newlyweds could come and go without worrying about being photographed," a source said about the property. "The main bedroom in the generously sized cottage boasts a coved ceiling with gilded dolphins and rope ornament from a 19th Century Royal yacht. There is also a marble Graeco-Egyptian fireplace."
Aside from that, Prince Harry and Markle lease a new home in the Cotswolds for two years. In fact, they are reportedly spending their time there together while the royals take their annual break from their duties.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's farmhouse cottage on the Great Tew Estate is very private. It has cameras and a tight security presence to ensure that they would have the privacy they need.
"It's very clear they want to be private and left alone," one local said. "The property is in the middle of woodland and you wouldn't know it was there. It is very remote which is why they like it. It's like a fortress. There's a huge security presence, you can't get close."
