Although Mel Brooks is mostly known for movies like “Spaceballs” and “Young Frankenstein,” the comedian took a break from telling jokes to make a major political statement.

On Wednesday, Brooks’ name began to trend on Twitter as fans praised the star for making his first-ever political video.

In the clip, Brooks reveals that he is voting for Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden in the upcoming election. The endorsement resulted in fans flocking to social media to applaud the 94-year-old for using the platform to share the message.

“Mel Brooks makes sense. Vote for Joe. Vote for science. Vote for an end to this pandemic,” one person wrote.

Another fan added, “This just made my whole freakin week! Thank you Mel Brooks for everything you do! #BidenHarrisToSaveAmerica2020.”

Meanwhile, one fan revealed that they shared the message with their father because they could relate to Brooks’ frustration about not being able to be with their family.

“I sent this to my dad. It's his birthday, and we watched nearly every Mel Brooks movie together growing up. I miss my dad and I likely won't be able to see him till the pandemic ends,” the individual wrote.

In the video, Brooks revealed that the pandemic has been especially hard on him because he hasn’t been able to be with his loved ones.

“I’m Mel Brooks, and behind me you see my son and my grandson, and they can’t be with me – why? Because of this coronavirus, and Donald Trump isn’t doing a damn thing about it,” Brooks said.

“So many people have died, and when you’re dead you can’t do much. So I’m voting for Joe Biden.”

Brooks revealed that he admired Biden’s beliefs and encouraged his followers to vote for the democrat in the upcoming election. “I like Joe. Why do I like Joe? Because Joe likes facts. Joe likes science. Joe will keep us going. Take a tip from me – vote for Joe,” he said.

The U.S. presidential election will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
