Melania Trump prioritizes her role as Barron’s mom over politics.

According to The List, the first lady kept a low profile during Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and only appeared on social media with carefully composed interviews in her penthouse. It was found out that Melania opted to be with their then-9-year-old son Barron rather than join Donald on his political campaigns.

“It’s my choice not to be there. I support my husband 100 percent, but we have a 9-year-old son together, Barron, and I'm raising him, and this is the age he needs a parent at home,” Melania told "20/20" in an interview back in 2015.

Melania became a mom to Barron at the age of 35. In the same year, she also became a U.S. citizen. She assumed her role as a mother without the help of nannies.

According to her, she and Donald know their respective roles. Melania did not want her husband to change Barron’s diapers or put him to bed.

Melania also shared what she learned as a parent. Here’s her secret to smoothing things out with her child. “It is so important to have good listening skills. ...I don’t push my thoughts or likes or dislikes. I want him to grow to be his own person. I think [it’s] important to give a child room to make mistakes in order to learn,” the FLOTUS told Parenting.

Melania and Barron are sometimes subjected to harsh criticism from Donald’s critics. However, the first lady makes it a point to be her son’s comforting buffer.

“We’re dealing with [hateful comments], and I’m teaching [Barron] the right way and giving him morals... and teaching him values at home. I’m home most of the time with him and being a parent to him. He’s 10 years old and he needs somebody at home,” Melania told Us Weekly in 2016.

In related news, Melania is confident when it comes to her marriage with Donald and doesn’t mind not being with her husband all the time. Speaking about their connection, Melania said that they have a “great relationship” and both of them are very independent.

She added that she doesn’t think she has to be with her husband every minute of every day, but she believes that couples should do what they are passionate about and get together in the morning and evenings to share and experience life together.
