On November 2, 2007, Meredith Kercher's body was found on the floor of her upstairs flat that she occupied with three other young women in Perugia, Italy. She was sexually assaulted and stabbed, and some property belonging to her was also stolen.

When her body was found, she was covered by a duvet soaked in blood.

Kercher was 21 years old when she was murdered, and investigators said that she was killed on November 1, between 9pm and 4am. A British university exchange student from Coulsdon, South London, he had been studying for one year at the University of Perugia as part of the ERASMUS student exchange programme.

The murder case, that had created havoc in the media in 2007 and had got the case appealing to millions, appears to be forgotten. Four years after the incident, her sister says Kercher's case has been almost forgotten and overshadowed by appeals for her convicted killers, Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito.

Amanda Marie Knox, a University of Washington language student, shared a flat with Kercher. She along with her boyfriend was convicted for the drug-fueled sex murder of Meredith Kercher. They were jailed in 2009. Knox, who was Kercher's flat mate, met her boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito at a classical music concert held on Oct. 25, 2007, that she attended with Kercher at the University for Foreigners.

They were given sentences of 25 and 26 years respectively. Knox and Sollecito have appealed. Their appeal commenced in Dec. 2010 and is scheduled to end in late 2011.

The case has been extensively covered by the media and the reactions by the public in the case are divided - those who believe that Knox and Sollecito are innocent and are wrongly convicted, and those who believe that they were directly involved in Kercher's murder and convicted fairly.

Stephanie Kercher, Meredith's sister, told Italian TV that the media had ignored Kercher who shared a flat with Knox, when the two were exchange students in Perugia, Italy, the BBC reports.

There's not much of Meredith in the media, Kercher told Porta a Porta, according to the BBC. There aren't photos of her in the media. The focus has completely moved away from Meredith to Amanda and Raffaele. And Meredith was so lovely - an intelligent, kind, caring person. I'm scared of forgetting what she looked like.

According to the prosecution, Kercher's throat was slit during a satanic sex game that involved Knox and her Sollecito, and a drifter they barely knew called Rudy Guede, Global Post reported.

Rudy Guede, a resident of Perugia, was convicted on Oct. 28, 2008 of the sexual assault and murder of Kercher and is now serving a reduced sentence of 16 years.

Knox and Sollecito were sentenced for 26 years and 25 years in prison respectively, but they deny wrongdoing and have appealed the verdict, which prosecutors demanded on Friday to be rejected by the Italian court.

Kercher family believes that Knox is guilty and is in Italy ahead of an appeal verdict against Knox's and Sollecito's convictions.Knox is expected to address the court next week.

Knox's mother, Edda Mellas, believes her daughter is innocent. She says it is hard for her as she has to listen to people saying horrible and untrue things about Knox.
