  • The original "Heat" movie had Robert De Niro and Al Pacino in lead roles

Filmmaker Michael Mann has decided not to give up on the idea of making a prequel to his blockbuster hit movie “Heat” and revealed that he “absolutely” wants to make a film about the events that took place before the original movie.

In an interview with Deadline, the 77-year-old director noted that he is already working on the script and is putting all of his time in writing the screenplay of the highly-anticipated film. Mann further stated that the story is stacked about 10 inches high on his desk.

“It is a stack about 10 inches high on my desk right now. We are on it, and I am putting time into that and a screenplay I cannot tell you about. But I absolutely want to make a movie of the ‘Heat’ prequel,” Mann said.

It will be interesting to see if Al Pacino and Robert De Niro will be attached to the project or not. However, both superstars previously mentioned that they would love to use the de-aging technology to star in a prequel to the hit film from 1995.

Last year, while speaking in an interview with The Independent, Pacino and De Niro noted that they would love to adopt the new technology to make an appearance in the film adaptation of the “Heat” prequel novel, which is being written by Mann.

When asked if he would love to do the “Heat” prequel when the movie gets made, the Academy Award-winning actor shared that it would be really amazing to see himself younger in the movie. De Niro, who was also present there during the interview, confirmed that he would love to do that, as well.

Both stars used the technology for their roles in Martin Scorsese’s movie “The Irishman.”

“Heat” tells the story of Lt. Vincent Hanna (played by Pacino), who decides to catch a seasoned criminal named Neil McCauley (portrayed by De Niro) who has vowed to pull off one last robbery before he retires.

The feature film was met with positive response from the critics as well as audiences. The movie is based on the true story of a police officer named Chuck Adamson who wanted to catch McCauley, whom De Niro’s character was named after.

The movie currently holds a score of 86% on review site Rotten Tomatoes.
