Michelle Obama was telling Oprah Winfey back in May that she missed casual shopping trips from her life before the While House. I can't go to Target and walk around. I guess I could but it would mess up everyone else's shopping experience, Mrs. Obama said.

And now we can see why. The first lady could not shop at Target without creating a buzz and a company of Secret Service.

Thursday afternoon, Michelle Obama made a trip to Target store at Potomac Yard Shopping Center in Alexandria, Virginia.

The first lady was not recognized at first, in a Nike baseball cap and sunglasses.

Her shopping trip was guarded by casually dressed Secret Service agents, who arrived half an hour earlier, and an assistant that accompanied Mrs. Obama for 50 minutes as she browed the aisles in Target.

People did not approach her, she was very incognito, Maria Panagopulof told CNN.

We didn't realize truly what was happening until she had almost left. The cashier recognized her, but she was very unassuming.

Mrs. Obama enjoyed her casual shopping at Target, purchasing dog food and toys for Bo among other undisclosed items, according to People.

It is not uncommon for the First Lady to slip out to run an errand, eat at a local restaurant or otherwise enjoy the city outside the White House gates, said Kristina Schake, Michelle Obama's communications director.
