A six-year-old boy in Plainwell, Michigan, suffered serious injuries after he was viciously attacked by a dog on Saturday (April 18).

The victim, identified as Camdon Bozell, lived with his mother and nine-year-old sister. On Saturday, the victim was at his grandmother’s home when he was attacked by a pit bull. Tristin Lent, the victim’s mother, said she was at work when she received a call saying that her son was attacked.

“I got a phone call from the police, saying that he had been attacked by a dog, and was in an ambulance on his way to Bronson,” Lent told Fox 17. She added that due to coronavirus restrictions, the boy had to ride alone in the ambulance. He underwent an emergency surgery and was taken to ICU for recovery. His face is now covered with stitches.

In a GoFundMe page started to raise money for his medical expenses, one of the victim’s family members said, "He suffered a broken nose, skull fracture, possible nerve damage to the left side of his face and upper lip and many, many stitches.”

It would take a long time for the boy to recover completely.

“He will more than likely need more plastic surgery in the future along with counseling to recover emotionally from such a tragic experience,” the family member added. The boy was discharged from hospital Monday (April 20).

Following his discharge, the boy said that he was “glad he didn’t die and that he didn’t want to die.”

Meanwhile, speaking about the attack, the victim’s mother said it was “completely unprovoked.”

“This dog has no history of aggression. He’s used to being around loud, obnoxious kids,” she said, adding, “Literally within a second, the dog went for his face.”

Lent added that she doesn’t blame the dog’s breed for the attack.

“I love pit bulls, I always have. Now when people are asking what breed he was….I just don’t want to answer them,” she said.

The case was being investigated by the Kalamazoo County Animal Control and the future for the canine was not known. It was also not known if the dog belonged to the family.
