A family dog in Albuquerque, New Mexico, had to be euthanized after it was viciously attacked by three pit bulls during a walk.

Speaking to KRQE, a dual CBS/Fox-affiliated television station, on Sunday (April 19), Brent Buell said he and his daughter were walking their lab mixes, Molly and Jordan, when the canines were viciously attacked by three pit bulls. CCTV footage of the incident showed the three canines dragging Jordan. A neighbor then attempts to stop the incident.

“We were just on a walk in the morning with our two dogs. Thankfully a neighbor who I had never met before in my life stopped to help me,” Buell said, adding that the owner of the pit bulls then showed up and took the canines away.

Buell and his daughter went to get Jordan and saw that the canine had suffered serious injuries.

“My daughter and I went back there and I saw Jordan. She was wrapped up. She was trying to stand up and when she saw us, she got calm. I knew what she went through and I could just see the damage. I said, ‘I can’t do this to you. I don’t know what kind of life you’re going to have, you just went through a living hell and I don’t want to put you through all of these surgeries,’” he recalled, adding that the canine had to be put down because of the extent of the injuries. His daughter too suffered minor injuries in the incident.

Meanwhile, following the attack, the owner of the pit bulls surrendered all the three canines to the animal control and criminal charges were filed against him. The pit bulls were allegedly put down as a result of the attack.

Buell said the attack has left him traumatized.

“It’s to the point where when we are out in public or take my daughter’s dog on a walk, I don’t care if it’s a pit bull, a golden retriever, or lab, if they’re not on a leash or don’t have an owner, it’s anxiety. I won’t take my dog for, or my daughter’s dog, for a walk in my neighborhood anymore. I actually drive away from the neighborhood to take her on a walk,” he said.
