Microsoft's Zune portable media player will now work on Windows Vista with a newly released software update, the company said Tuesday.

The Redmond Wash.-based software giant said in November that its media player was not compatible with the new next-generation version Windows operating system, and that updates would soon be issued.

Tuesday's software upgrade removes these technical hurdles, allowing the Zune software to be installed Windows Vista. The operating system is already available for businesses who buy it in bulk. The consumer version is scheduled for January 30 of next year.

In addition to adding support for the new operating system, Microsoft said on its Zune Insider blog that the update improves the Zune software installation process, addressing the issues that some of the...users reported.
