“The Mindy Project” Season 6 will introduce a new female character in its upcoming episodes.

According to TV Line, the Hulu series is looking to cast a Latina actress who could play the role of Dr. Mary Hernandez, a smart and gorgeous physician who is working at a women’s clinic. Dr. Hernandez will also be Jody’s (Garret Dillahunt) newest love interest. But before developing feelings for each other, Dr. Hernandez pisses Jody and Colette (Fortune Feimster) off at first when their patients start transferring to Dr. Hernandez’s clinic.

Initially, “The Mindy Project” star and executive producer Mindy Kaling toyed with the idea of creating a spinoff focused on Jody and Colette. However, the actress also realized that there’s no need for a spinoff since the finale episode for Season 6 would already be a satisfying ending for the fans.

Meanwhile, during the Television Critics Association summer press tour last week, Kaling announced the return of Chris Messina as Danny in the upcoming installments. Unfortunately, Danny and Mindy’s reunion won’t mean that they will get back together. After all, both characters are already married to their respective partners.

“We aren’t super interested in tying everything up in a bow. We’re trying to avoid that, while also leaving the audience with the sense that Mindy had some growth. Happily ever after can sometimes be romantic happiness, but it also can be a feeling of contentment about your life as a professional person and as a mother,” she said.

But “The Mindy Project” executive producer Matt Warburton promised fans that Danny and Mindy will find clarity regarding where they stand in each other’s lives. “One thing we can promise the audience is a little bit of clarity about where they stand. They’re both married to other people, so we went into the final season with that complication, which is fun and delicious,” he said.

“The Mindy Project” Season 6 will have a total of 10 episodes for its final run. The series will premiere on Hulu on Sept. 12 and will introduce “Modern Family” star Julie Bowen in one of the episodes.
