The man who on Friday allegedly threw a young boy from a balcony at the Mall of America in Minneapolis was "looking for someone to kill" because he was upset about being rejected by women, according to police.

Emmanuel Aranda, 24, was charged with first-degree premeditated attempted murder after the child plunged 40 feet to the floor, resulting in several life-threatening injuries. The boy was quickly rushed to a Minneapolis hospital to be treated for head trauma and multiple broken bones.

Police were able to quickly arrest Aranda, who was found waiting to leave the mall on a light rail train. After being taken into custody, Aranda admitted to throwing the child and that he had gone to the mall with the intent to kill someone. He also told police he originally planned to kill an adult but decided to target a child instead.

Aranda spotted the child with his mother waiting to get into Rainforest Café with a whole group. The boy’s mother told authorities he came up close to the group, prompting her to ask if the group was in the way or if he needed to go ahead to meet with someone. Without warning, Aranda picked up the boy and tossed him over the balcony.

Aranda had other incidents at the mall. First, he was arrested for causing damage to stores and resisting arrest in July of 2015. He was arrested again in October 2015 for tossing a glass of water and glass of tea at a woman, who had refused to buy him a meal at Twin City Grill.

He was also arrested in Chicago in 2014 on charges of aggravated assault at a Golden Nugget restaurant and for destroying computers at a Minneapolis library in August 2015.

Aranda is expected in court Tuesday afternoon, with prosecutors seeking a bail amount of $2 million.
