A minor girl in India was allegedly forced into prostitution by her father and stepmother, following which she became pregnant.

The incident came to light after the victim narrated her ordeal to her sister, who filed a police complaint. The police said the minor was often sent to parties where some people would sexually abuse her. During one such party in March, the minor was raped by four men and became pregnant. The incident took place in the western state of Rajasthan, India Today reported.

Following this incident, the minor refused to attend these parties. The father then thrashed her and threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the incident. He also forced the girl into prostitution, for which he received $100.

The girl returned a few days later, and on June 21, when he asked her to go back to the hotels, she refused, following which he again threatened to kill her. The minor told the police she got pregnant after she was raped, and that she did not tell anyone about it as she feared her father, Pragativadi News reported.

She also said when she told her stepmother about it, the woman asked her to consume poison and also threatened to sell her if she told anyone else about the incident.

The victim then managed to escape and meet her sister, who she was banned from seeing.

The police said evidence was being collected and the girl’s statement has been recorded. The accused will be taken into custody after the girl’s medical examination is done.

Certain acts that facilitate prostitution are illegal in India by the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956. These acts include managing a brothel and luring a person into prostitution. However, private prostitution or receiving money in exchange for sex with consent might not be illegal in the country.

Last week, a 12-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and gang-raped in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The victim, with a history of mental illness, was found unconscious. Medical reports of the girl confirmed the rape. The police were on the lookout for the men involved in the incident.
