KEY POINTS

  • Kiely Rodni was last seen at around 12:30 a.m. on Aug. 6
  • The details have not met the criteria for issuing an Amber alert
  • Investigators plan to continue the search in a task force style

As the search intensifies in the second week for missing Kiely Rodni, investigators have said the disappeared teen's cellphone was last detected at the campground lake in Nevada County, California.

Rodni went missing after attending an end-of-school party at Prosser Family Campground in Truckee on Aug. 6. The teen was last seen at around 12:30 a.m. and her cellphone has been out of service since her disappearance. Rodni's silver 2013 Honda CRV with license plate 8YUR127 has also been missing since then.

"The ping for the data points was near the water. It's hard to tell an exact pinpoint," Capt. Sam Brown said at a press conference, as reported by NY Post.

"Just because it was last pinged there, that doesn't mean that's where the phone stopped pinging. There's [sic.] lots of reasons why those notifications or data points could be lost," Brown added.

As part of the widespread search operations, the rescue teams have been scouring the lake, the deepest part of which is about 57 feet and visibility is low, police said.

The investigators also found a new video of Rodni wearing a pink and white sweatshirt with "Odd Future" written across it. Rodni was spotted wearing it earlier in the evening at the party, Placer County Sheriff's office said Monday.

The officials have released the stock image of the sweatshirt but said they could not release the images from the footage. Meanwhile, it is not clear if Rodni was still wearing the sweatshirt when she was last seen, police said.

"We are still looking for any clues, videos, tips, any information to help us to put pieces together and help us to direct where we're going and how we're going to continue to do a search. We are moving into a more limited but continuous search and rescue effort," Capt. Sam Brown, of the Nevada County Sheriff's Office, said in a press conference Monday.

The teen's vehicle has a ram sticker right below the rear wiper blade and cops urged the public to call the tip line immediately if they spot the vehicle.

The investigators have spent around 9,000 man-hours searching for Rodni since her disappearance. Meanwhile, Lt. Josh Barnhart, of the Placer County Sheriff's Office said the officials would continue the search in a task force style, after having identified lead investigators from each search team.

"I'd like to say that we're putting the pedal down, that we are continuing to work this week, and that after this week we will be modifying things to a task force style. That means our resources will continue to move forward, but in somewhat of a different manner," Barnhart said.

The investigators have not issued an amber alert on the missing teen as the details around the disappearance have not met the criteria for issuing one, officials said.

Anyone with information about Rodni has been asked to call the Placer County Sheriff's Office's dedicated tip line at 530-581-6320 where the caller can remain anonymous.
