  • Anna Faris' "Mom" character, Christy, left home to study law in the Season 8 premiere

  • Christy's parents, Bonnie and Adam, cried in the car after dropping her off at the airport

The writers of "Mom" immediately explained the absence of Anna Faris' character in Season 8 when the premiere episode aired on Thursday.

"Mom" fans were shocked when Faris and the CBS series' producers confirmed that she was leaving the show after seven seasons. Questions were raised regarding how the writers would write off her character, Christy Plunkett, and fans found the answer during the "Mom" Season 8 premiere, Us Weekly reported.

Christy's mom, Bonnie Plunkett (Allison Janney), revealed her daughter's whereabouts during a conversation with her husband, Adam Janikowski (William Fichtner), inside a car.

"Every mom dreams of the day when they drop their 42-year-old daughter off at the airport to go to school," Bonnie said of Christy studying law.

"And I did it all by myself — not the dropping off, the raising. I mean, I wasn’t there the whole time," she continued. "But I was definitely there for the beginning, in and out during the middle and rock-solid from age 37 on. You know, the formative years."

She then explained that Christy got a "full scholarship" to Georgetown Law in Washington, D.C.

"A lot of parents would be a puddle of tears right now, but you know what I think of them? Selfish. Not me ‘cause I’m focusing on what she’s going to get, not what I’m going to lose, which is the most beautiful little girl a mother could ever have," Bonnie said as she and her husband began to sob.

Faris announced her exit from "Mom" in September, suggesting in her statement that she plans to move on to other projects.

"The past seven years on Mom have been some of the most fulfilling and rewarding of my career," Faris said in a statement.

"I’m so thankful to Chuck [Lorre], the writers and my amazing castmates for creating a truly wonderful work experience," she continued. "While my journey as Christy has come to an end, allowing me to pursue new opportunities, I’ll be watching next season and rooting for my TV family."

In a recent interview, Janney broke her silence about Faris' departure from the series. She admitted that not having Faris was a "huge loss" as she recounted how warm and funny her co-star was on set.

"It's a huge loss for the show to not have Anna because she was part of creating a character, Christy, that everyone fell in love with, who was so lovable and warm and gullible and funny and we will miss her so much," Janney told Entertainment Tonight.

"I think I'll miss the most, for me, the relationship between Bonnie and Christy, even though that will still continue. But she won't be present. That's what I'll miss," she added.
