Lenovo’s Motorola division didn’t have a great 2018, but that isn’t stopping the company from releasing Moto branded phones. A new rumor claims that Motorola is working on a new flagship Android phone powered by Qualcomm’s next-generation System-on-Chip.

A source claims that the upcoming flagship is currently codenamed “Odin” and it might actually end up being called the Motorola Moto Z4, according to XDA Developers. The source also says that the Motorola “Odin” will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8150, the rumored name for the successor to the Snapdragon 845 platform.

The Snapdragon 8150 is believed to be manufactured on a 7nm process and will feature a dedicated neural processing unit (NPU). The processor is said to be composed of 4 “Silver” and 4 “Gold” cores with a tri-cluster CPU configuration. The configuration is said to consist of 4 “little,” 3 “big” and 1 “prime” CPUs. The mobile platform is also speculated to have Qualcomm’s new aptX Adaptive Encoder. The Snapdragon 8150, also rumored to be called the Snapdragon 855, might be announced sometime next month, according to Android Headlines.

The base configuration of the Moto Z4 “Odin” is believed to arrive with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Higher RAM and storage configurations could still be in development. The source says that Motorola is also working on a software that would make an in-display fingerprint sensor to work on one of its upcoming phones. However, it remains unclear if the Moto Z4 will have an in-display fingerprint scanner.

Motorola is also believed to be developing its new flagship Android phone to have support for Moto Mods - accessories that are attached to the back of smartphones to add new features. It’s still unknown at the moment if the upcoming device will have support for older Moto Mods or if it will have an entirely new compatibility requirement.

What’s known for sure is that this “Odin” phone will support Motorola’s upcoming 5G Moto Mod, which was announced back in August alongside the Moto Z3. This also means that the “Odin” will be equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon X50 modem. The 5G Moto Mod still doesn’t have a release date, but Motorola said that it would go on sale sometime in early 2019. The 5G Moto Mod is also only compatible with Verizon’s 5G network in the United States, which may suggest that the Moto Z4 will be released in the country as a Verizon-exclusive, just like the Z3.
