The end is near for “Nashville.” What was written as the Season 4 finale will serve as the series finale after ABC decided to cancel the show last week. The drama’s final hour will show Rayna trying to help Maddie and Juliette considering going public with the truth.

“Rayna resorts to drastic measures when she learns that Maddie has crossed paths with a duplicitous figure from her past,” the episode 21 synopsis teases. Rayna (Connie Britton) didn’t want Maddie (Lennon Stella) to sign with Lennox Hill, a New York-based label. Rayna said she had a bad history with it, but she didn’t reveal any details. Will she be able to convince Maddie that she is in over her head?

Elsewhere, Juliette (Hayden Panettiere) mulls over being honest not just with her friends and family but everybody else as well. “Juliette must choose how to publicly reckon with the truth of Jeff Fordham’s death — a decision that directly affects Layla,” the synopsis reveals. Jeff (Oliver Hudson) died saving Juliette, and the country star explained that to Layla (Aubrey Peeples) recently. Layla always appears happy to get any publicity, but will Juliette really want to expose this part of her past to the press?

It sounds like there will be at least a little romantic drama in the “Nashville” series finale for Scarlett (Clare Bowen) and Gunnar (Sam Palladio). The Exes “consider parting ways as bandmates.” In the trailer for episode 21, Scarlett admits to Gunnar that she is in love with him. Maybe the only way for them to be together is to pick either business or romance? Or perhaps the band may break up because Gunnar doesn’t return those feelings?

The promotional video also shows Will (Chris Carmack) surrounded by demonstrators. He isn’t going to ignore them anymore. “Will finally decides to do what he should have done long ago — step up as the leader of a cause and a community.” He’ll have a little help making that decision. His ex-boyfriend Kevin (Kyle Dean Massey) will guest star in the episode.

The “Nashville” series finale airs on ABC Wednesday, May 25, at 10 p.m. EDT.
