Working with family isn’t always easy. Previously on “Nashville,” Avery agreed to produce Hallie’s album. With Juliette managing the artist, that’s definitely going to lead to some conflict. The “Nashville” Season 5, episode 16 synopsis and promo video reveal that the couple will have some serious trouble working together.

“Juliette spars with Avery over Hallie’s sound,” the synopsis for the CMT drama teases. Hallie (Rhiannon Giddens) got signed to Highway 65 for her original sound, but Juliette (Hayden Panettiere) doesn’t want anyone taking risks after her gospel album failed.

At ATX Television Festival earlier this month, “Nashville” music producer Tim Lauer revealed that like Hallie, Giddens was nervous about recording a song that was so far from her comfort zone. “She sings a pop song, and she says, ‘I don’t know how to do this,’” Lauer recalled. “I said, ‘Look, you are a deep, deep musician. You have to channel your inner Beyoncé. You have to be an actress right now. You have to act. You have to sing like you’re playing a character that you are not.’ And she was very worried about it, and she absolutely nails it.”

Hallie will have bigger problems than Juliette’s plans for her career. The country star’s paranoia is kicking in during episode 16, titled “Not Ready to Make Nice.” It seems it isn’t just business she and Avery (Jonathan Jackson) are sparring over. Juliette doesn’t like how well her husband is getting along with the roots singer. “You are not fooling anyone,” Juliette says in the promo video.

She clearly thinks Hallie and Avery are having an affair, and her suspicions could ruin Hallie’s career before it even gets started. But would Avery actually cheat on his baby mama? The two have overcome so much at this point, it would be shocking if the producer was really willing to take such a risk.

Deacon (Charles Esten) will definitely take a side in the business drama over Hallie’s album, but he’ll also be more concerned with the fighting in his own house, which is about to become a warzone. “Maddie discovers the truth about the origins of the bullying on social media,” the episode 16 synopsis teases.

Viewers will remember that Daphne’s (Maisy Stella) homeless friend Liv (Odessa Adlon) created a meme mocking Maddie’s (Lennon Stella) confrontation with the police. Daphne knew it would hurt her sister, but she figured no one would see it. Unfortunately, the creation took off.

Elsewhere, Scarlett (Clare Bowen) and Gunnar (Sam Palladio) will be dealing with some serious media attention after an interview goes wrong. “Scarlett’s pregnancy garners her some unexpected attention,” the synopsis reveals.

The trailer makes it clear that a journalist correctly guesses that Damien (Christian Coulson) is the father of her baby. Will Scarlett try to lie her way out of a scandal?
