With Thanksgiving just around the corner, National Cake Day gives sugar fanatics the perfect opportunity to satisfy their sweet tooths. Each year, on Nov. 26, 24 hours are dedicated to one of America’s favorite desserts.

Although much isn’t known about the origins of National Cake Day, the history of cake can be traced back to ancient times, specifically to Egypt in Greece.

Whether it is chocolate, carrot or ice cream cake, Americans can’t seem to get enough of the fluffy dessert.

Below are five easy recipes that dessert lovers should consider trying out on National Cake Day 2019.

1. Chocolate Cake

This recipe from Belle of the Kitchen is egg-free, dairy-free and simply delicious. Although some may be worried about making a cake without classic ingredients like eggs and milk, this dessert will come out fluffy thanks to a special ingredient, hot water.

2. Strawberry Almond Flour Cake

This moist and tender almond flour cake can be enjoyed as a dessert or as a mouthwatering breakfast. Topped with delicious berries, this recipe from King Arthur Flour will surely satisfy sugar cravings in the morning and at night.

3. The Best Vanilla Cake Recipe

Although ditching that box of cake mix can be intimidating, making a cake from scratch is easier than it seems. This recipe from Sugar Spun Run breaks down each step of how to turn your average kitchen ingredients into a delicious dessert.

4. Pineapple Upside-Down Cake

Celebrate National Cake day by with a large slice of pineapple upside-down cake. The best part about this cake from Simply Recipes is that it can be frozen and eaten at a later date. To freeze the cake, use plastic wrap to tightly wrap the dessert and then cover it with aluminum foil. Simply unwrap the cake and allow it defrost at room temperature before serving.

5. Carrot Cake

Skip that trip to the bakery and take a forkful of some homemade carrot cake. This recipe from Gimme Some Oven involves fresh carrots and a cream cheese frosting made from scratch. Feel free to add some pecans, walnuts or shredded coconuts into the mix to meet your carrot cake needs.
