National Feral Cat Day is marked annually on Oct. 16 to celebrate cats of all stripes, no matter what they call home.

Feral cats have often been stigmatized in several parts of the world. On this day, embrace these nomads, and show some love toward them. Here are some quotes, courtesy Good Reads, about the felines to share on this day:

1. "You were a stray cat, strutting so free and full of pride. But I could see your open wound. And without really thinking I just chalked it up to another cool thing about you. I never realized how much you hurt." – Ai Yazawa

2. "I heard a wise saying once that has helped me: "Negative feelings are like stray cats. The more you feed them, the more they hang around." – Joyce Rupp

3. "It is remarkable, in cats, that the outer life they reveal to their masters is one of perpetual boredom." – Robley Wilson

4. "With the Stray Cats at least, we really took the music somewhere else. First, we wrote our own songs. That's a real weak point in modern classics if you do rockabilly or blues." – Brian Setzer

5. "Cats do care. For example, they know instinctively what time we have to be at work in the morning and they wake us up twenty minutes before the alarm goes off." — Michael Nelson

6. "You cannot look at a sleeping cat and feel tense." — Jane Pauley

7. "In ancient times cats were worshipped as gods; they have not forgotten this." — Terry Pratchett

8. "I love them, they are so nice and selfish. Dogs are too good and unselfish. They make me feel uncomfortable. But cats are gloriously human." — L.M. Montgomery

9. "Cats never listen. They’re dependable that way; when Rome burned, the emperor’s cats still expected to be fed on time." — Seanan McGuire

10. "My relationships with my cats has saved me from a deadly, pervasive ignorance." — William S. Burroughs
