A Good Samaritan is the person who extends a helping hand to someone in need without asking for anything in return. Alternatively known as Good Samaritan Involvement Day, Good Samaritan Day is celebrated on March 13 every year.

The day honors the unselfish deeds of the Good Samaritans that have inspired generations. We are directed toward achieving our goals and in a proactive and productive life and often lose sight of someone who needs our help or moral support.

While opportunity will present itself to fill someone else’s love bucket, a true Good Samaritan will actively seek ways to spread kindness. After all, showing compassion and kindness to someone who can’t help us back is what makes the world a better place.

History behind the phase Good Samaritan:

The phrase 'Good Samaritan' is derived from a Bible parable. The story of the parable revolves around two men who found a man severely beaten, bleeding, and left on the side of the road bleeding. Both the men passed by the wounded man, but, only the Good Samaritan stopped to help him out. The man cleaned his wounds, clothed him, and paid for the man’s stay in an inn where he recovered.

Good Samaritan Day was created to honor Catherine "Kitty" Genovese, who was murdered on March 13 1964 in New York City just outside her home. After two failed attempts, her killer was successful in killing her. However, while making the two earlier attempts, the killer was interrupted by witnesses but none ever called the police. It is believed that Kitty could be alive if someone had come to her aid on the day of her killing.
