Have a lot of fun New Year’s Eve but are now suffering the painful and nauseous consequences? Today’s National Hangover Day precisely because that same thing is happening to so many other people after their Monday night celebrations. Don’t worry, though, because there are a few different ways to help you cure your hangover symptoms.

After drinking alcohol all night, your body’s likely very dehydrated, which means the first step to making your headache disappear is to drink not just a lot of water but also products with electrolytes that’ll help your body balance out. Choose coconut water, or sports drinks like Gatorade, to get the essential minerals that’ll help you out.

Another option is Pedialyte. While the electrolyte-filled drink is usually for children, many adults have started using it for hangovers over the last few years. So much so that the company just released a new Pedialyte Sparkling Rush version that’s aimed more at adults, making it a good pick for New Year’s Day.

If you need a quick, short-term fix for your hangover, the age-old “hair of the dog that bit you” trick is one that works, according to WebMD. If you have another alcoholic drink in the morning, it’ll hold off the brain chemical glutamate, just like your drinks the night before did, which will stave off the head pain. Once you stop drinking, though, the headache will return.

To treat your symptoms without any help from alcohol, take anti-inflammatory medicine, like Advil, for your headache and some Pepto-Bismol for your stomach issues. Make sure you don’t take any medication on an empty stomach, though. Not only should you eat up before taking medicine, but having a good, hearty breakfast might help fix your hangover, as well.

There’s no sure-fire way to cure a hangover, but taking these steps might help you feel some relief sooner than you would have otherwise.
