National Science Fiction Day is observed every year on Jan. 2 to celebrate the genre that has captured the imagination of millions across the world. Coincidentally, the day corresponds with the birthday of famed science fiction writer Isaac Asimov.

Whether it's Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein," which is believed to be the first sci-fi novel or one of the Star Trek series iterations, the genre has captured a wide audience that learns and draws inspiration from it. And, to mark the day, fans across the United States read and watch their favorite science fiction.

As a celebrated author and screenwriter Ray Bradbury said as per Brainy Quote: "Science fiction is any idea that occurs in the head and doesn't exist yet, but soon will, and will change everything for everybody, and nothing will ever be the same again."
