National Superhero Day: Here Is How You Can Be A Role Model

Everybody needs a hero -- real or fictional. A superhero can be someone who inspires, mentors or encourages us to become a better and stronger individual. Or, they can even be someone from our favorite comic book that made our childhoods happier. But, with or without a cape, a superhero is a role model, and our world needs them.

The concept of National Superhero Day started in 1995 after Marvel Comics employees reached out to people in Pennsylvania to ask them what superpowers they wished they had.

While many were inspired by fictional superheroes, few spoke about real-life superheroes, who they knew and admired.

So, on April 28, 1995, the first-ever National Superhero Day was celebrated, in honor of all the superheroes who work hard to bring in a positive change.

Want to be a superhero? Here are four ways to be one.

1) Select your battle: Every superhero picks a fight, mostly with a fictional villain in a comic book. However, yours can be a cause. As COVID-19 wreaks havoc around us, one can be a superhero just by helping people. This can either be by adhering to new norms or by donating plasma or even helping old people stay safe. Every single step in this direction counts.

2) Spread your cheer : A superhero is someone who spreads the message of positivity too. Did you remind your friend to wear the mask? Or, did you thank your sanitation worker? A word of gratitude will not only make you a hero, but also turn someone’s bad day into a good one.

3) Work on your skills: Even superheroes need to hone their skills. Like Wonder Woman, who is always brushing up her fighting skill or Tony Stark, who invests in technologies, find and learn new skill sets which help you further your career or life. Good leaders are superheroes too.

4) Stay healthy: It is not easy to be a mentor or role model if you aren't healthy enough. Investing in your health and staying proactive makes you stronger. Practice meditation and yoga to keep mental health, while sticking to a healthy diet and good habits to stay physically well.
