  • Twitter users had mixed reactions to Mia Khalifa auctioning off her "infamous" glasses to benefit Beirut explosion victims
  • Some raised concerns regarding the validity of the massive bids offered for the glasses
  • Khalifa confirmed that the bid nearly breached $100,000 less than 12 hours after the auction began

Mia Khalifa recently put one of her personal items up for auction to raise money for the Lebanese Red Cross following the devastating Beirut explosion that killed over 100 and wounded thousands. However, Twitter and Instagram users had mixed reactions to the move.

One netizen shared a screenshot of one of Khalifa's Instagram posts, which showed that the latest bid for her "infamous" glasses had climbed to $99,500 less than 12 hours after the auction went live, and praised her for her initiative.

"Mia Khalifa auctioning off her [explicit] glasses to raise money for Beirut is next level queen sh--," the netizen wrote.

Some were worried about the authenticity of the bids on eBay for the item, given the purpose of the auction.

"This isn't me doubting that people got this money, this just seems like people are putting in fake bids for this and im worried about the donation," one person commented.

Several other Twitter users shared the same concerns regarding Khalifa's auction, while some remained optimistic that the bids are real.

"If people will pay THOUSANDS for water that touched someone's a--, they'll pay HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS for a piece of history in the porn industry," one commented.

"I love the fact this is to help but who TF bought those," another Twitter user wrote.

On Thursday, Khalifa shared on Instagram that she was putting her glasses up for auction not only to raise funds but also to continue raising awareness for the plight of her home country Lebanon. She said she tried to be "creative" in the ways she could help but also acknowledged that there is "always more that can be done."

However, Khalifa also received criticism from some social media users, who pointed out that the ex-porn star has repeatedly said she wants to move on from her porn history but continues to bring up things from her days in the adult industry, including the glasses.

"I thought she was tryna move on," an Instagram user commented.

"She claims to be moving on but still uses the name mia khalifa on all her socials, smh," one follower wrote.

However, Khalifa's supporters came to her defense, slamming her critics.

“People n the replies shaming her and trying to bring her down like ya'll should focus on your own lives at least she's doing a lot more than most celebrities who are just tweeting ‘pray for Beirut’ without actually donating to help Lebanon," one person wrote on Twitter.

In one of her most recent Instagram posts, Khalifa informed her followers that eBay has reached out to her and that they were working on relaunching the auction after it was taken down Friday. The social media star also said she is "working on other creative ways to raise funds in the meantime."
