A Filipino mom, who recently gave birth to a son, named him Covid Bryant amid the Coronavirus Disease or commonly known as COVID-19 outbreak.

It spoke of a Netizen who found out that the daughter of their household helper gave birth to a baby boy on the morning of March 15, which was the first day of the quarantine in Metro Manila, Philippines, and the newborn was named Covid Bryant.

The post went viral on the social media platform, Facebook, but Twitter user @criseldaicious, shared this on Twitter with a caption, “Coronnials are here!”

Another Twitter user responded to the trending topic, saying that the said Filipino mom tried to sum up the tragedies that occurred in 2020 by naming her son Covid Bryant. She called it “inappropriately witty and funny.”

The baby boy’s second name is Bryant, and looking back, the entire world was shocked and devastated after the Kobe Bryant’s death. On Jan. 26, several news outlet reported of the basketball superstar’s tragic helicopter crash, together with his daughter Gigi and seven others. It was in the morning of Jan. 27 when TMZ reported that the bodies of all 9 victims were identified.

The baby boy’s first name is Covid in reference to the infamous COVID-19, which is plaguing the entire world. The World Health Organization declared COVID-19 as pandemic on March 11, Time reported; however, the occurrence of COVID-19 was traced back to Nov. 2019, when a case of someone suffering from the symptoms of the said disease had been identified.

Citing the report of South China Morning Post, The Guardian reported that Chinese authorities had identified 266 people who were placed under medical surveillance for suspected contraction of the said virus, and it was on Nov. 17 when the earliest case was identified. In addition, the identification of this first case was reportedly weeks before the Chinese authorities announced the appearance of a new virus.

To control and prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the Philippines, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte was compelled to place the entire country under a state of calamity through the Proclamation Order No. 929, CNN Philippines reported. The said Order placed an emphasis on the stringent implementation of Enhanced Community Quarantine for the entire Luzon Island.

Filipinos are known to be resilient as they are able to find ways to “lighten up” amid any cataclysmic circumstance, and since the citizens are bound to stay at home because of the standing order of the president due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most turn to social media to address their boredom.
