KEY POINTS

  • An inconsistency in the placement of a window led the family to the room
  • The room was described by the homeowner as "a doomsday prepper's pantry"
  • The previous owner reportedly had no idea the room existed

The thrill of finding some extra space in your house, especially if you didn't pay for it while moving in, is incomparable.

This happened to a Nevada family, who, upon moving into a house, was surprised to make an unusual discovery -- a hidden room behind a wall with medical and ration supplies. The owner's daughter documented a video of how the room was revealed, and shared the clip on TikTok on Saturday.

TikTok user stinknjeepn said in the video the room was exposed after removing a fake wall that was guarding it.

The discovery was made after the family members sensed there was some sort of inconsistency with a window, which was just a few centimeters from the wall. However, the end of the house was more than a meter from the window.

The family then decided to investigate the extra space.

"So we're gonna cut a hole in the wall and find out why it was cut off," the woman is heard saying in the video. "We're gonna try find out why it was closed off and see what's behind it."

The camera then panned toward a man, presumably the woman's father, who was seen trying to cut a hole into the wall using an electric saw. Once the hole was cut, the woman panned across the floor-to-ceiling of the secret chamber, which showed some racks lined with a couple of boxes. The room resembled a pantry.

"There's an empty shelf here," the woman was heard saying in the video. "Then on this side, there's a shelf with a couple of boxes," she added. "They've got labels on them but I can't tell what it is."

In a follow-up video, the family was seen cutting a bigger hole into the wall and wiggling their way inside thereafter. Once inside, the family discovered what they described as a "doomsday prepper's pantry" filled with medical supplies, canned and dried food and water.

"This is a doomsday room," the man tells his wife, who exclaims: "holy s**t."

In a third video, the TikToker said the house was built in 2004, and purchased by her parents in 2019. It wasn't clear when the current owners moved into the house.

The TikTok user said she had contacted the previous owner, who allegedly had no idea the room existed.

The video has clocked in millions of views and thousands of likes, with social media users wanting to see more.
