New 'Splinter Cell' Game Teased By Ubisoft, Possible VR Version Releasing On Oculus

“Splinter Cell” is one of the most successful games from Ubisoft, and for the past couple of years, fans have not heard anything about it. There is no indication that the gaming studio is working on a new entry to the respected stealth series. But, it appears that Ubisoft showing a picture of Sam Fisher is enough to send fans into frenzy spewing wild fan theories and speculations about a new “Splinter Cell” game.

The official Twitter account of Ubisoft Spain earlier tweeted a picture of “Splinter Cell’s” Sam Fisher. The tweet has a Sam Fisher hashtag and a text that translates, “you need to understand the darkness to face it.” The picture appears to be from a teaser trailer for the main protagonist’s appearance in “Ghost Recon Wildlands,” but hopeful fans would like to believe it is a tease for a new “Splinter Cell” game.

The tweet is enough to make fans excited and come up with wild theories about the alleged new “Splinter Cell” game. But, honestly, this could just be Ubisoft’s way of trolling the fans and to hype up engagement. PCGamesn reports that industry insiders reported in June that there is no new “Splinter Cell” game currently in development at Ubisoft.

The latest tweet could by just a tease about Fisher’s appearance in “Ghost Recon Wildlands” or could be anything else entirely. There are only a couple of possibilities for “Splinter Cell.” It could be either a new mobile game, “Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad,” or could be a part of a recent deal with Facebook oculus to develop VR titles based on the studio’s properties.

Rumors have it that Ubisoft will release a new “Splinter Cell” VR game, and it is currently in the works for Facebook. In Jul. 2019, it was reported that Facebook had inked a VR-exclusivity deal with Ubisoft to develop “Splinter Cell” and “Assassin’s Creed” for its Oculus VR headset. A report from the site called The Information revealed that a couple of sources familiar with the subject said that Oculus is looking to outright purchase game studios and ink exclusive deals.

For now, all we can do is speculate and take the latest tweet with a pinch of salt until Ubisoft officially reveals more details if there is indeed a new “Splinter Cell” game or just a new version of it in a different platform.
