KEY POINTS

  • Weaponsmithing is improved by crafting weapons at forges
  • Longswords, rapiers and honing stones grant the most cost-efficient progress
  • Higher-tier items reward more XP

The Weaponsmithing skill dictates a player’s ability to craft the different tiers of weapons from Forges, making this highly desirable to those who want to grind for their Mining skills, or to players who want to gain access to the best weapons possible.

Leveling up Weaponsmithing can be a long and tedious process since it requires gathering of rare metals and other secondary materials. However, this process can be optimized for maximum time and resource efficiency, so players won’t have to grind as much.

Here’s a quick overview of Weaponsmithing in “New World” and how to level it up as quickly as possible.

How Weaponsmithing Works

As one would expect, the Weaponsmithing skill is improved by crafting weapons in settlements. Each crafted weapon will yield a certain amount of skill XP, with higher-tier weapons rewarding more XP than the others.

The materials used for crafting weapons can be changed depending on the weapon tier to produce stronger items. Different types of leather, metals and other resources can be used to increase a weapon’s overall gear score or improve the chances of getting a perk once crafted.

How To Level Up Weaponsmithing

Like in other RPGs, leveling up the Weaponsmithing skill in “New World” will mostly involve repeatedly crafting one weapon type until the next weapon tier is achieved. Crafting different weapon types in “New World” will yield different amounts of XP; two-handed weapons give more while one-handed weapons grant less.

Additionally, not all weapons will improve the Weaponsmithing skill. Specifically, spears and hatchets will improve the Engineering skill, while the rest will contribute toward Weaponsmithing.

For the early levels, players can either produce mass amounts of Iron Longswords or Iron Rapiers to quickly reach Level 50, which will unlock Steel-tier weapons. Weak Honing Stones are good alternatives for the weapons since they only cost 1 Flint and 1 Death Mote to make.

The same process applies to the higher crafting level tiers. Mass-produce longswords, rapiers or honing stones of the appropriate level to increase the Weaponsmithing skill as efficiently as possible. Longswords and rapiers yield the same amount of XP, and they’re relatively cheap to make in terms of resource requirements.

Don’t forget to salvage crafted weapons to get some extra gold and ingots back.
