The NFL has picked a location for a possible meeting between the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs in the 2023 AFC Championship game. If both teams advance beyond the divisional playoffs, they will play at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line.

Because the Week 17 matchup between the Bills and Cincinnati Bengals was ruled a no contest, the league decided that Buffalo and Kansas City would face off at a neutral site in the event that they are the last two teams left standing in the AFC playoffs.

The Chiefs finished one game ahead of the Bills for the No. 1 seed in the conference. Had Buffalo beaten Cincinnati, the Bills would have been granted a first-round bye and home field advantage until the Super Bowl.

The AFC Championship Game is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 29. A matchup between Bills and Chiefs would start at 6:30 p.m. ET.

If either the Bills or Chiefs face a different opponent in the conference title game, they will play at home.

The Chiefs are only one victory away from reaching their fifth consecutive AFC Championship Game. Kansas City has a bye on Wild Card Weekend and gets to host the lowest remaining seed in the divisional round.

Buffalo hosts the Miami Dolphins on Wild-Card Weekend. If the Bills advance, they'll earn another home playoff game with the second-lowest seat in the AFC bracket.
The betting odds suggest that Buffalo might as well have a bye in the wild-card round. The Bills are massive 13.5-point favorites over the visiting Dolphins because third string quarterback Skylar Thompson is expected to get the start. Miami had lost five straight games before eking out an 11-6 victory against the New York Jets in Week 18 to clinch the AFC's final playoff spot.

The Dolphins are 1-3 when Tua Tagovailoa doesn't start.

Kansas City has eliminated Buffalo from the postseason in two straight years. The Chiefs beat the Bills 38-24 in the 2021 AFC Championship Game. Kansas City's 42-36 win over Buffalo in last year's divisional round was one of the greatest playoff games in league history.

In Week 6, the Bills beat the Chiefs 24-20 at Arrowhead Stadium.
