  • Nikki Bella received intense backlash for sharing a book about Dwayne Johnson
  • Bella said the issue became political and she didn't expect it
  • Johnson made headlines last month for endorsing Joe Biden and Kamala Harris

Nikki Bella did not expect that supporting her friend who wrote a book about Dwayne Johnson would lead to her getting intense backlash online. She was all the more shocked because her move prompted a political debate on social media.

On Wednesday's episode of "The Bellas Podcast," Bella shared how posting a photo of "The Rock: Through the Lens: His Life, His Movies, His World" by Hiram Garcia on Oct. 1 put her in an awkward position. She admitted that she was shocked and was not expecting the criticism after doing such a simple gesture.

"We know as authors … how much work you put into making your first book; to any book you have," Bella said as quoted by Us Weekly.

"And the minute you get your first book published and it hit shelves, how proud you are. You’re just so excited. It’s a huge accomplishment. So when I got his in the mail, I just remember that feeling when we dropped 'Incomparable'."

After sharing what she considered a "love post," Bella tended to her and Artem Chigvintsev's 2-month-old son, Matteo. Then she checked her post and to her surprise, there was too much hate in the comments section.

"Then I looked at social media and all of a sudden I was like, ‘What the [explicit]?’ I’m like, how did this turn into a political debate?" she continued.

Some called out others to boycott her products. Those who commented negatively on her post were angry over Johnson's endorsement of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. For Bella, she didn't think about Johnson's political stand because she was just supporting her friend who authored the book.

"First of all, that never crossed my mind. Not once," she explained.

"It sucks that you can support someone — support a friend and their amazing accomplishment — and how it turns into negativity and you get this backlash and it turns into something so political."

Despite the criticisms, Bella promoted positivity and love on the platform. She told her followers that she embraces everyone's beliefs because she was raised to accept that everyone doesn't think alike and that's what makes the world go round.

"We're all never going to think the same," she added.

Johnson endorsed Biden and Harris last month. In his speech, he praised Biden's incredible career, compassion, heart and drive. He also lauded Harris for being smart and tough.

"I do feel that Vice President Biden and Senator Harris are the best choice to lead our country, and I am endorsing them to become President, and Vice President, of our United States," The Rock said.
